The Monteith Laboratory is located at the University of Tennessee Knoxville in the Department of Microbiology. Nestled in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, UTK was founded in 1794 and is one of the oldest public universities in the nation. Members of the UTK community train and study in a city where excellence in academia meets the natural beauty of the southern Appalachian region and in the company of the artists, makers, and entrepreneurs that call Knoxville their home.

The mission of the Monteith laboratory is to explore the delicate balance that exists between metabolic and inflammatory processes, and how perturbations in this equilibrium promote disease. By developing an interdisciplinary group with impactful immunological discoveries, we aim to translate our findings to improve human health while promoting trainee development.
